IER's Professor Terence Hogarth has successfully secured Horizon Europe funding for his project Skills2Capability. The project is about understanding how skill systems across Europe can reduce the level of skills mismatch in their labour markets.

Congratulations to all IER PhD students who have graduated. Many will have received their award certificates by post over the last few years but the ceremonies provided us with an opportunity to celebrate. So our very best wishes go to Dr Lorraine Johnson, Dr Jeisson Cardenas Rubio, Dr Sharon Chohan, Dr Jiang Yang, Dr Rebecca Wilde, Dr Tannis Goddard and Dr Bhaskar Chakravorty.

Professor Joe Sakshaug recently published a commissioned paper for the US Health and Retirement Study (HRS) and the US National Institute on Aging.

The paper proposes several methodological approaches and lays out a set of recommendations for reducing nonresponse and data linkage biases in panel surveys, with a particular focus on the HRS.

IER is delighted to introduce Prof Joseph Sakshaug who joined us last month. He is a quantitative methodologist and data scientist with expertise in survey methodology, data integration, business statistics, missing data, and measurement error.

His core research focuses on developing, implementing, and evaluating methods of collecting and analyzing data for the social and economic sciences, including survey data, administrative data, objective health data, and digital behavioural data collected from smartphones, web surveys, and sensors.

He has taught widely and has served on methodological advisory boards of several prominent social surveys in the UK, Germany, and USA. Before joining IER, Joseph held professorships at the University of Manchester and the University of Mannheim.

The Buying Social Justice through Procurement project has launched its website. The project, which involves IER's Dr Katharina SarterLink opens in a new window as co-investigator, explores the use of social procurement by public bodies to promote equality in the UK construction workforce.

Methodologically, the project combines expert interviews, case studies, and a survey, which will soon be launched. The website provides an overview of the project objectives, methods and intended outputs.
