IER undertook an analysis of green jobs and skills on York. Based on a methodology developed by IER, the report identifies the number, occupations and sectors of green jobs currently in the York travel-to-work area. The analysis differentiates between different types of 'green' jobs, and provides estimates based on different definitions. The report, written by IER’s Peter Dickinson, Dr Jeisson Cardenas-Rubio and Professor Chris Warhurst, also includes an analysis of the skills required by these green jobs.

The conclusions contain a series of recommendations that York City Council could adopt in supporting residents, the workforce and employers in the transition to a net zero economy.

This article, co-authored by IER’s Dr Jeisson Cardenas-Rubio, analyses the impact of the First Metro Line's announcement on housing prices in Bogotá, Colombia. It combines innovative databases, web scraping and Google Maps with administrative records—such as the Bogotá Urban Development Institute (IDU) databases—to assess how the announcement of the metro construction impacts on the rental or sales market prices for the houses surrounding the infrastructure projects.

IER's Professor Anne Green and Dr Erika Kispeter will give a presentation entitled 'Economic Sustainability Formulating Inclusive Growth Agendas for Cities: A Focus on Labour Markets' at a conference which celebrates the UN World Cities Day on 31 October. The presentation draws on a recently completed study, International policy and practice review: how do cities lead an inclusive growth agenda?, Anne and Erika conducted with Paul Sissons (University of Coventry) and Francesca Froy (Whose City?) for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

The conference is organised by the Sustainable Cities Global Research Priority of the University of Warwick and aims to offer the opportunity to hear more about the wide variety of research being undertaken in the cities space.

IER, in conjunction with Cedefop (the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Education and Training), will be holding a Technical Workshop on Skills Forecasting from 10-11 May 2012 at the University of Warwick’s Warwick in Venice venue. This invitation-only workshop brings together experts from across the EU and other neighbouring countries to discuss issues relating to skills forecasting within the wider context of the Skillsnet network.

The workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss a range of issues including a focus on the latest methodological developments and preliminary results from the 2012 work programme of the Forecasting Skill Supply and Demand project currently being undertaken by a consortium led by IER.

The main funding for the workshop has been provided by Cedefop, with additional support from the University of Warwick, the National Scientific Research Institute for Labour Market and Social Protection and  Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini.
