Pompeii continues to reveal its secrets, fascinating historians and archaeologists alike. Amidst the ashes of antiquity, Michael Scott, Professor of Classics and Ancient History and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) at the University of Warwick delves into the recent revelations emerging from this iconic archaeological site.

The University of Warwick’s Ancient Drama Festival is set to return for its tenth year, featuring Aeschylus' The Persians. Funded by the British Academy, the festival will take place on the 25th and 26th January 2024 at the Warwick Arts Centre.

Dr Charlotte Heath-Kelly of the Department of Politics and International Studies and Dr Joseph Sanzo from Classics and the Institute of Advanced Studies have each been awarded a €1.5M Starting Grant by the European Research Council in recognition of, and support for, their pioneering research. A team led by Professor Kevin Butcher of the Department of Classics and Ancient History, University of Warwick, has been awarded a European Research Council Advanced Grant of 2.48m euros for their project Rome and the Coinages of the Mediterranean, 200 BCE – 64 CE.

Guinness World Records have independently certified an astrolabe excavated from the wreck site of a Portuguese Armada Ship that was part of Vasco da Gama’s second voyage to India in 1502-1503 as the oldest in the world, and have separately certified a ship’s bell (dated 1498) recovered from the same wreck site also as the oldest in the world.

Euripides’ tragedy about love, betrayal and revenge is coming to Coventry. The play will be produced by Classics students at the University of Warwick, and will be performed in the Main Stage of the prestigious Belgrade Theatre in Coventry.
