The below course structure is indicative. Modules on offer change year on year, dependent on staff research interests and availability.

Year One

Core modules
  Linguistics: Understanding Language (ET118-30)
 

One of the following First Languages:

 

French Language I, German Language I, Italian Language I or Spanish Language I (post A-level)

 

Plus one of the following Second Languages:

 

French, German, Italian, Spanish (any level)

Arabic, Chinese, Japanese or Russian (beginner’s or post-GCSE level)

Language Centre Modules for Degree students

  Plus one of the following Third Languages:
 

French, German, Italian, Spanish (any level)

Arabic, Chinese, Japanese or Russian (beginner’s or post-GCSE level)

Year Two/Three

Phonetics and Phonology (ET229-15)

  Morphology and Syntax (ET230-15)
  Continuation of First Language:
  French Language II, German Language II, Italian Language II or Spanish Language II
  Continuation of Second Language:
  Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian or Spanish
  Continuation of Third Language:
  Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian or Spanish

Year Two/Three - Spent Abroad

Year Four

  Linguistics Dissertation (ET315-30) or two* of the following:
