Graduation in July 2022

We are delighted to be planning to hold in-person graduation ceremonies again in July 2022, representing the first ceremonies on campus for more than two years. This will be a very special occasion as you celebrate your achievements with family, friends and the Warwick community.

This summer we will first be inviting students who graduated in absentia in Summer 2020, Winter 2021 and Summer 2021 back to campus for a belated and thoroughly deserved moment to recognise their achievements and we hope that these graduates will be able to join us as Warwick Celebrates their achievements. Eligible graduates have received an email from the Academic Registrar with further details today.

We will then be holding our traditional Degree Congregations, for students due to graduate in July 2022. Students currently expected to be eligible to attend these ceremonies have received an email from the Academic Registrar with further details today.

Winter 2022 Graduating Cohort

In December 2021, the difficult decision to postpone our Degree Congregations in January 2022 was taken due to the continuing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

At that time, we advised that we would be in touch in due course with further details of the new arrangements for the Winter 2022 graduating cohort. We have now been able to review plans and can confirm graduates will be invited back to attend a ceremony in January 2023. Please note this change from previous communications which referred to a summer event. We are delaying the ceremonies until January 2023 so that they can be delivered to the standard graduates deserve, giving the best possible experience when celebrating your outstanding achievement.

Ceremonies will take place between Monday 16 January - Wednesday 25 January 2023, with the exact dates and detailed schedule to be announced in the summer, and registration due to open in November 2022. Graduates have received an email from the Academic Registrar with further details today.

January 2022 Degree Ceremonies - Postponed

With the recent significant increase in Covid-19 cases in the UK, and the Government’s guidance on how we should mitigate the risk of further spread, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone our January 2022 degree ceremonies. We apologise for the frustration and disruption this may cause graduands and your families. We believe this is the best course of action to keep our community safe and to give you the chance to celebrate your achievements properly, when the time comes.

We are making plans to arrange celebrations in the summer for all graduates who have been unable to attend ceremonies due to the pandemic. We will be in touch in the new year with arrangements for you and your cohort.

Graduands registered to attend the January 2022 degree ceremonies will all receive an email from the Academic Registrar with further details by the end of the day.

Graduation Celebration - Expressing Interest

We have today written to those who graduated in absentia in Summer 2020, Winter 2021 and Summer 2021 with further details of the July 2022 graduation celebrations. To support our planning, we are asking graduates from these cohorts to advise whether or not they intend to attend the celebrations and will use the response data to determine the schedule of ceremonies. Please be aware that this is an expression of interest and does not act as a registration, which will follow closer to the time. For full information, please see the email from the Academic Registrar, sent to graduates from these cohorts who previously completed our graduation/certificate address registration process. In the version of the email linked above, the buttons are deactivated, with graduates only able to respond via the email they have received.

Graduation in 2022

We are delighted to let you know that we are planning to hold in-person graduation ceremonies once again, with the first to take place during January 2022.

Students set to graduate in January 2022 (Postgraduate Taught and Postgraduate Research students with awards to be conferred between October – December 2021) have today received an email from the Academic Registrar, asking them to save the dates for ceremonies taking place between 18-21 January 2022.

Current finalist undergraduate students set to graduate in July 2022 have today received an email from the Academic Registrar, asking them to save the dates for ceremonies taking place between 18-27 July 2022. PGT and PGR students awarded between January – June 2022 will also be invited to these ceremonies.

July 2022 will also see a spectacular graduation celebration held on campus to recognise the academic endeavours of those who graduated in absentia in Summer 2020, Winter 2021 and Summer 2021 (including those awarded following September resits). Graduates from these cohorts have today received an email from the Vice-Chancellor, asking them to save the dates (8-15 July 2022). More details of the graduation celebration will be available soon.

July 2021 Degree Ceremonies

In light of ongoing uncertainty relating to coronavirus, the University has chosen to postpone in-person graduation ceremonies until 2022. Although this was a difficult decision to make, ultimately the safety of the Warwick community had to take priority. It’s a decision that has been taken in-line with our approach towards other large-scale on-campus events.

Therefore, as we await a clearer picture on restrictions on public gatherings, social distancing and travel, celebrations of this year’s graduating cohort will be held virtually. Students will still graduate in July 2021, providing the requirements of the award are met. However, this will be in absentia, with degree certificates issued by post.

Providing it is safe to do so, all graduates of 2020 and 2021 will be invited back to campus in summer 2022 for a celebratory event. Friends and family will also be welcome to attend. We will inform all eligible students, graduands and graduates of our graduation event plans for 2022 in due course and update these pages.

Eligible students will graduate in absentia with certificates received in the post. You will need to register by Friday 27 November to ensure your certificate is included in our first print runs.

If you are expecting to receive an invitation and haven’t by the end of today, or if you have any questions, please contact us.

January 2021 Degree Ceremonies

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the University of Warwick has decided that we cannot hold our January 2021 degree ceremonies safely based on current government guidance. These ceremonies were due to take place in the week commencing 18 January 2021. Cancelling these ceremonies is a measure we hoped we would not have to take, but our first priority must continue to be the safety of our community. Students meeting the requirements of their award will still graduate in January 2021, but this will be in absentia and they will receive their degree certificate by post instead. Students expected to be eligible will be invited to register an address for their certificate in November 2020. We are exploring the feasibility of enabling family and friends to celebrate with our graduating students at a later point in 2021, but this will still depend on government restrictions. We will inform all eligible students, graduands and graduates of our revised plans in early 2021. We thank everyone for their understanding and we are happy to help with any queries you may have via graduation@warwick.ac.uk.

Certificate Posting

We are receiving numerous queries asking when certificates will be posted. We are expecting to post approximately 7,000 certificates this summer and will be working hard to ensure certificates are posted promptly and efficiently. Your certificate will be dispatched according to your chosen certificate delivery option as soon as we can and we will notify you via email when your certificate is posted. We kindly ask you not to contact us asking when your certificate will be sent, as this will only serve to delay posting of certificates while we respond to such emails.

Certificate will not be posted before you receive your results. This week we expect to dispatch previously awarded certificates, including students who deferred their graduation from a previous ceremony, MBChBs and some PhDs. From next week, we will start printing and posting PGT certificates and transcripts (where ready). Printing and posting of UG certificates will begin no earlier than 22 July 2020. Please understand that it will take a number of weeks/months to post all certificates.
