Freezing cells made safer thanks to new polymer made at University of Warwick

Cell freezing (cryopreservation) – which is essential in cell transfusions as well as basic biomedical research – can be dramatically improved using a new polymeric cryoprotectant, discovered at the University of Warwick, which reduces the amount of ‘anti-freeze’ needed to protect cells.


Eleven young researchers selected to help Warwick deliver ambitious research strategy

The University of Warwick has been chosen to host eleven of 2019’s Leverhulme Early Career Fellows – just under ten per cent of the national total. Early Career Fellowships are awarded to enable young researchers to undertake a research project, under the supervision of a Warwick academic mentor, which will lead to publishable results and help them get a foothold on the academic career ladder. 


Disruptive 2D mass spectrometry spin-out secures seed investment

Verdel Instruments Ltd - a spin-out company of the University of Warwick UK – has developed new disruptive two-dimensional mass spectrometry (2DMS) technology and raised seed investment of over £230,000 from Longwall Ventures and Innovate UK.

 


UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship award to simulate and develop chemical reactions fuelled by sunlight and greenhouse gases

The intricate interplay of sunlight, molecules, and metal catalyst materials that can break down greenhouse gases such as CO2 will be explored in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Warwick, by Dr Reinhard J. Maurer using computer simulations thanks to award of £1.46M by the Government’s UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship programme.
