Theo Saville graduated from Warwick with a MEng Manufacturing & Mechanical Engineering with Business Management, in 2015. Alongside his studies, he joined WMG in 2014 as a researcher in Metal Additive Manufacturing, applying 3D printing for counterterrorism and policing applications. At a similar time, Theo founded CloudNC, and is Co-Founder and CEO of the advanced software company which uses AI to fully autonomise manufacturing processes, primarily in precision manufacturing.

Elaine is a postgraduate social work student turned academic and now author.

Shreena and her husband met in Warwick ten years ago and have now celebrated their third wedding anniversary.

Meet Tanisha Bhatara (BA, English Literature, 2022; MSc, Management, 2024), a distinguished alum. Her journey at Warwick, shaped by her A-level experiences, and several leaps of faith, led her from English studies to Business. Guided by mentors, she explored new fields and is now with Ernst & Young Global Limited UK and Ireland (EY UKI) Assurance Graduate Programme to become a qualified accountant. A chance response to a newspaper advert led to a friendship with the family of Great Britain’s most successful heptathlete.

I chose to study at Warwick as I wanted to study at one of the top universities in my subject, and the flexibility of the course at Warwick was a huge factor. I wanted to take part in a year abroad, and study other subjects alongside my degree, and Warwick allowed and encouraged that.

A number of Warwick alumni have been recognised for their outstanding contributions in the recent King’s Birthday Honours. Twelve individuals have each been celebrated and honoured for their tireless work and commitment, as well as the incredible impact they have on the world around them.

Maths was always going to be my subject; it was my best subject at school and the subject I most enjoyed. I wasn’t particularly career-minded, just loved doing maths for the sake of maths!

Population dynamics was a module I did in my third year and was the first time I had been exposed to maths with real world applications. I really enjoyed seeing how techniques I had been using in a real situation. I enjoyed this module enough that I would go on to do a PhD in this topic!

Manjot Chana (BEng in Applied Engineering (Product Creation), 2019) is a Technical Director at Stinger, a global business that specialises in aftermarket automotive products.

The opportunity to fulfil his degree apprenticeship stemmed from his role at Jaguar Land Rover. Explore how his experience at Warwick, driven by a deep passion for engineering, has shaped his career and personal growth.

Antonio Abella, a graduate of WMG, University of Warwick (MSc in Engineering Business Management, 2017), is the Director of Operations and Innovation at Ventos Metódicos. The company specialises in waste management and produces environmentally friendly products transforming decommissioned wind turbines into high-end custom furniture. Learn about Antonia’s time at Warwick and how it has shaped his successful career.

Maths was by far my favourite subject, so studying it at university was a natural choice. I wanted a university which had a fast pace, a broad range of choices, and offered the flexibility to either stay in academia or transition into industry. Warwick excels at all of these, so was my top choice.

Christine works as a gallery tour guide, librarian, and researcher at Compton Verney Art Gallery, where their research on a 16th-century altarpiece is currently exhibited. Motivated by the discovery and sharing of new knowledge, Christine also gives talks on various historical subjects and volunteers at local museums and archives, drawing inspiration from their enriching experience as a mature student at Warwick.

I developed good communication skills during Warwick in Africa when I taught Maths (and Italian and ballet!) to classes of up to 50 children in Ghana. Likewise, talking about my independent projects in oral assessments in front of lecturers and course mates developed my communication skills and my ability to throw myself into something I found daunting.

Piers has completed his 25th London marathon.

Clive's curiosity and drive to learn continue to motivate him, a trait fostered during his time at Warwick, which taught him critical thinking and presentation skills.

Mathematics was the only subject I enjoyed in school and found that calculus and probability really interested me because of how we could understand and explain real world phenomena. This motivated me to delve deeper into what maths has to offer, along with how it's applied!

In the past 12 months Warwick alumni have been generous with their time and knowledge. We look back at some of the ways alumni have been actively getting involved and making an impact over the last year.

During both my MSc and PhD at Warwick, I had several opportunities to communicate research to a range of audiences - some academics, some domain experts from industrial partners, some other students. This is something I am glad I started practicing early, as when I then moved into industry, I was already equipped to talk about science in a range of different ways depending on who the audience was, and what was most relevant to them.

Whilst the second-year essay and final year project were good opportunities to hone my communication skills, I found working on weekly assignments with other students equally helpful. Knowing a solution isn't the same as being able to explain it or teach someone!

A trinity of Warwick Business School graduates have made it to a global list of change makers who are still under the age of 30. Max Klymenko, Carlo Fedeli and Jasmine Yeo have all been honoured in the Forbes 30 under 30 Europe List for 2024. Published annually by the US business magazine, Forbes, the list features young entrepreneurs and creatives who, in one way or another, are transforming the face of business and society.

Warwick, chosen by Whitleigh for its prestigious status, led her to her current role in children's services, where she focuses on complex cases encompassing exploitation, drug use, and mental health, fueled by her aspiration to enhance her mental health knowledge.

Archit's decision to attend Warwick stemmed from its esteemed reputation and vibrant campus community, influenced by interactions with Warwick Ambassadors during his International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Mumbai. Now, as a Software Licence Compliance Consultant at Deloitte UK, his drive comes from a larger vision of making a positive impact and running his own business, shaped by his time at Warwick and supported by family and friends.

With its vibrant academic atmosphere and campus-based lifestyle, Warwick fostered a strong faculty connection and immersive student experience. Now pursuing a DPhil in Area Studies at Oxford, Kefan’s journey, influenced by Warwick's supportive community, extends from undergraduate studies to impactful research on social topics across the world, reflecting a commitment to social change and gratitude for formative experiences.

Rumbie's decision to choose Warwick stemmed from her desire to advance her career and academic pursuits after six years in education. As a senior law lecturer now, she finds fulfilment in contributing to the progress of those she encounters. Rumbie attributes much of her growth and teaching approach to the mentorship she received at Warwick, cherishing the vibrant community and lasting friendships formed during her time there.

Graduating from Warwick in 2021 with a degree in Philosophy, Jake began his career teaching English in Thailand before returning to the UK for a role in business consulting. After a brief stint in project management, his drive for adventure led him to Shenzhen, China, where he now teaches English and explores entrepreneurial ventures in exporting and recruitment. Warwick’s reputation has been key in opening doors throughout his career.

David Curwen (BA History 1985) was inspired during his time at Warwick to pursue a career in Law. He is now devoted to helping people who struggle with legal problems to help make a positive impact on their lives.

Anita Chagar, Samita Sall, and Kerry Flora are all cousins and Warwick alumni.

The Warwick Summer School (WSS) is a three-week experience for university students and professionals from around the world to discover (or rediscover!) the magic of Warwick, through a full academic and exciting social and cultural programme. With participants joining from more than 62 different nationalities, one of the main highlights for attendees is having the opportunity to learn and share insights with people from across the globe, as well as creating lifelong friendships with like-minded people.

Growing up in Coventry it was always a dream of Azzedine Dabo (MSc Analytical Science, 2013; PhD Chemistry, 2019) to study at Warwick. Now working as the scientific lead of GlaxoSmithKline’s (GSK) Method Innovation Team, Azzedine shares the importance of giving young people exposure to university life through outreach programmes like the one he has created at GSK.

From medicine to mentorship, Dr Gabriela Barzyk (MBChB, 2022), discusses her career as a junior doctor and her passion for creating equal educational opportunities for all.

Two Warwick alumni have scooped the win at the StudyUK Awards.

Benjamin Nuga (BA French with Chinese, 2022), has already diversified his skill set by working as a production assistant, scriptwriter, and musician and he’s also been a contestant on Countdown. Having only graduated in 2022, his achievements are centered around his willingness to step outside his comfort zone.

Anittah Owomugisha (MSc Engineering Business Management, 2023) a Chevening scholar now working as an Electrical Design Engineer at SSE plc, shares her journey, shaped by the supportive Warwick community. It was the Warwick connections, from faculty to peers, that played a pivotal role in propelling the start of her career.

Meet alum, Lu Sun (MSc Statistics, 2008), who's successfully juggling a career in AI with her newfound passion for gin. We caught up with Lu to learn more about her unique career journey from an early start in cognitive AI to launching her own gin brand inspired by her family’s roots.

Now working at the cutting edge of science and technology, Emma Arandjelovic (BSc Computer Science, 2002) looks back at her time at Warwick and how it was key to succeeding in a male-dominated industry.

Theatre company, Speakbeast, is made up of Warwick alumni and students who are interested in creating original theatre that focuses on queerness, transness, and what it means to be human in a mechanised world. They’ve been shortlisted for the Untapped 2024 award and will be taking their debut show, The Freemartin, to Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2024.

Theatre and Performance Studies students were able to hear from alumni Zoe Templeman-Young (BA Theatre and Performance Studies, 2013) and CJ Webley (BA Theatre and Performance Studies, 2015) at a careers event in January.

Friendship, warmth, fun, and connections were the foundations that encouraged Puri Ragini (BA History and Politics, 2020) to head to Warwick and build a successful career in the social sector.

A wrap-up of the year for the Department of History from Professor Tim Lockley MBE

28 November marked a jubilant day for Professor David Greenwood, CEO of the High-Value Manufacturing Catapult and Director for Industrial Engagement at WMG. In a special ceremony in London, he was formally admitted to the Royal Academy of Engineering. The event was a celebration of his outstanding contributions to the field of engineering. After he signed the Roll Book to officially join the Fellowship, he was graciously welcomed by Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal—a Royal Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Disha Naik (MEng Mechanical Engineering (with Intercalated Year), 2020), is revving up the world of motorsports. Her head start came from Warwick Racing, a student-run motorsport project team, delivered by WMG as a group project in collaboration with the School of Engineering. Here she pursued her passion for motorsports and helped break down diversity barriers.

Earlier this year, alum and activist Jo Todd (BA English and European Literature, 1990) received a CBE in recognition of 30+ years’ service to the victims of domestic abuse. From volunteering at a refuge in the outskirts of London, to more than 20 years as CEO of Respect - the pioneering charity tackling the root of the problem - Jo has dedicated her life to making a positive difference. And she’s not finished yet.

If you enjoy Ukrainian cuisine, you may own a copy of Olia Hercules’ (BA Italian and International Studies, 2006) recipe books. But, you may be surprised to hear that Olia’s journey started not in the kitchen, but in the corridors of Warwick.

The Chemistry with Scientific Writing course is a great opportunity that provides a flexible platform to hone both your chemistry and scientific communication skills. I loved the supportive environment provided by Warwick and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I would 100% recommend it!

What particularly appeals to me is the opportunity to gain first-hand experience within the BBC, immersing myself in the workings of broadcast media.

With nearly a decade in the British Army including tours of Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan before coming to Warwick, Lee Kemp (BA Film with Television Studies, 2007) had an unusual path to his degree. But it was a simple truth that made his decision.

After a long career in public relations, Dianne Page (Dipl History of Art, 2007; MA History of Art, 2009) took the plunge to pursue her passion for the arts via Warwick. Now with three novels under her belt and a fourth in the works, Dianne reflects on the milestones that got her here.

Growing up in northwest London, Kaya Patel (BA Film and LiteratureLink opens in a new windowLink opens in a new window, 2020) considered universities around the UK. But she chose to move to the Midlands for her undergraduate experience because she trusted her intuition.  

What happens when you have no choice but to flee your home and leave all you know behind? Can you ever utilise your experiences and turn them into opportunities for others? When Attal Shams’ journey of conflict, displacement, and resilience became the focus of his dissertation, he didn’t think anyone would be interested. But now, those experiences have become the driving force to him making a real difference to others.

Recent graduate Carolina Sagardoy Saavedra (BA History of Art, 2019) always knew she had a passion for fine art. She turned that passion into a reality – graduating from Warwick and moving to New York to study a Masters’ degree in Art Business at the world-renowned Sotheby’s Institute of Art. Today, she uses the knowledge she gained at Warwick to help art be bought and sold across the world.

Rohish has a deep desire to be part of the solution of climate change.

The ASI course at Warwick provides an excellent learning experience, where classroom lectures are seamlessly interconnected with hands-on experience with modern instrumentation techniques. The cohort-based learning style, guest lectures, and research seminars throughout the year really fuel curiosity and innovative thinking.

What makes a good communicator? We may think we know, but how many of us really excel when communicating? A successful career in sales and marketing led Tim Pollard (MBA, 2003) to a career-defining curiosity where he sought to understand and capture the underlying “science” behind communication.

Nuzu has been awarded the Bram Stoker Lifetime Achievement Award for my outstanding contribution to horror fiction.

Making a difference is what drives Kate Frost (BSc Management Sciences, 1997). She left her financial career to pioneer a charity that turns pennies into pounds to make a big impact.

For more than half a century, Warwick has forged a deep relationship with the city. The Faculty of Arts has taught generations of our students during their Venice terms. Since 2007, we have had a physical base in the Palazzo Pesaro Papafava.

From May 2023, our undergraduates, postgraduates and staff will have a new base - a wonderful late 17th century building in Palazzo Giustinian Lolin, right on the Grand Canal of Venice. As we get ready to open the building, we would love to share some alumni memories of studying in Venice over the years.

A veteran of the City of London, Chris Wheeler (MA Modern History, 2021) spent more than 40 years in banking, working, and travelling across the globe. But he swapped investment banking for US antebellum history and Irish diaspora and fulfilled his childhood dream when he began furthering his education journey, first studying History at the University of Oxford before completing an MA in Modern History at Warwick. Chris embarked on his PhD at the University of Edinburgh in September 2022.

BA English and Theatre Studies alum Vinitaraj Aulak may have only graduated in 2021, but she wasted no time chasing her dreams and securing a radio presenter role on BBC Asian Network. Here she shares how her undergraduate degree taught her to break the mould and follow her passions.

Thinking studying languages would progress his scientific career, Tim Heenan (BA European Studies, 2015; MA French Studies, 2020) undertook two degrees at Warwick. He didn’t know those lessons would pay dividends for years to come. At 71, Tim’s putting his research skills to good use and supporting his local community – and he’s not planning on slowing down.

Named as one of Powerful Media's 2022/23 Future Leaders and a semi-finalist in targetjobs Black Heritage Undergraduate of the Year Awards, Nosa Charles-Novia (BA Film and Literature, 2022) is currently an MA in Writing student and film-critic intern. Here she tells us about her degree and why that little voice in your head is your most powerful weapon.

An education at Warwick doesn't just set you up for a particular career path, some alumni find their passions outside of the lecture theatre. Immi Kelly (BA Education Studies, 2020) discovered her love of baking while looking for a distraction during lockdown when she was studying for her exams. Her skill and passion for baking soon led her to set up Immi Bakes, which she runs full time and is currently in the process of baking 22,000 cookies for Telford's Polar Express.

For Classics alumna Katharine Broderick (BA Classical Civilisation, 2021, MA by Research Classics and Ancient History, 2022), 2022 started and ended on a high. From having successfully produced Bacchae for the Warwick Ancient Drama Festival earlier in January to submitting the final assignment for her Master's degree, Katharine reflects on her time at Warwick and the relevance of Ancient Greek plays in modern society.

For more than 25 years, Charles Wiltshire (BEd Learning Difficulties, 1986) has worked in theatres as an audio describer. Here, he explains how he found this career path and why it means so much to him.

From combat to craftsmanship and opera to Oscars, Greg Campbell (BA Theatre Studies, 1987) has spent many years of his life in the creative arts. Since then, he’s completed a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE), two masters’ degrees and is underway with an Education PhD. But it was only when he received his ADHD diagnosis that the world – and his struggles as an undergraduate - began to make more sense.

The Warwick physics course made me challenge the most fundamental assumptions I held about the world.

The ASI MSc exposed me to numerous frontier instrumental techniques in Analytical Science; it equipped me with the nitty-gritty of many analytical methods and their applications in solving real life problems.

Musician and Music Educator Katherine Fear (BA Qualified Teacher Status [Arts Ed.], 1991) balances her passions for folk music and teaching. Here she shares how her time at Warwick gave her the confidence to follow her dreams.

During my time at Warwick, I grew and matured from an ambitious student to a professional young adult eager to enter the world of work.

Emily Wells (BA English Literature and Creative Writing, 2013) has a job many booklovers would envy: she gets to read for a living. As Senior Editor for a division of world publishing giant Hachette, her week is spent dissecting what makes a story sell and succeed on the market.

Dr Mark Wallace (BEng Engineering (Electrical), 1996; PhD Engineering, 2001) is Lead Innovations Engineer at Quanta Dialysis Technologies. He is one of the team which was awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering’s MacRobert Award for UK engineering innovation. The creation of the Quanta Dialysis System (SC+), a compact and portable dialysis machine that is transforming the lives of patients with renal failure, is already being used across 12 NHS Trusts. The innovation is both CE-marked and FDA-cleared and stands to be a global leader in the multibillion-dollar industry.

Before Warwick, alumna Armani Chante Samuel-Smith (BA Film and Literature, 2022) was working with a charity supporting students from underprivileged backgrounds into the creative industry. Fast forward to now, she’s the proud owner of a first-class degree, her own production start-up, a role with Netflix, and even more determination to write her own shows. It’s no wonder she’s been featured on Powerful Media’s Future Leaders 2022/3 list, which recognises 150 of Britain’s most outstanding Black university students.

Not only has law graduate Jessica Tinubu (LLB Law, 2022) been inspired by the trailblazing women she knows, but as one of Powerful Media’s Future Leaders, she is now an inspiration to others. An alumna of all trades, Jessica founded a start-up stationery business and has amassed a following of more than 13,000 on TikTok where she shares advice about Warwick and her law degree. And she’s only just getting started.

We know our arts alumni go on to do wonderful things after they leave us, and we love that everyone’s story is a little different. Arts advocate, Sunday Times columnist, mum, self-confessed cake scoffer, women’s fiction writer and ex Tellytubbyland resident alumna Pernille Hughes (BA Film and Literature, 1994) has had a rollercoaster of a journey since she graduated from Warwick. Here she tells us how she found her writing voice, and why your arts degree will always be a good talking point.

IntoUniversity’s mission is to raise the aspirations of young people from the poorest homes across the UK. Statistically, these students underperform at school, they are less likely to go to university, and have little chance of breaking the cycle of poverty.

Applications for the British Council Study UK Alumni Awards are open from 1 September to 28 October to alumni living outside of the UK who have studied in the UK in the last 15 years. Giving Day 2022, the Warwick community’s annual online fundraising challenge, was a great success, with 260 of you raising £182,673.75 for students, research and the arts at Warwick.

Final year Patrick (History and Politics, BA) is the co-founder and co-artistic director of Shoot The Messenger – an independent, student production company. Together with Ella McQueen, (Politics, Philosophy and Law, BA), he founded Shoot the Messenger in February 2021 as a way of keeping spirits up and creativity flowing during lockdown.

Despite originating from opposite sides of the world, Frank and Kate Dempsey (both MBA Business Administration, 2008) met through friends while studying at WBS. Theatre Performance Studies graduate, Dean Murphy discusses his career journey since leaving Warwick

Through her degree, Rebecca Preedy (BA Ancient History and Classical Archaeology with Study in Europe, (2021), MA Ancient Visual and Material Culture of Rome, present) has been able to combine her interests in ancient history, archaeology and languages. She talks about her Warwick experience, and the parallels between the ancient and modern worlds.

As artistic director and producer of the award-winning 1623 theatre company, alumnus Ben Spiller uses Shakespeare and theatre to engage communities, champion diversity and support social justice.

Ben’s love of the theatre blossomed at Warwick, where he became president of the award-winning Warwick University Drama Society (WUDS), acting in and directing productions at Warwick Arts Centre and beyond including the National Student Drama Festival.

Ben explained what motivates him to inspire, surprise and affect people through the power of Shakespeare.

After a career in journalism where she launched The Sunday Times Short Story Award, Cathy Galvin (MA Writing, 2015) came to Warwick to explore her interest in short stories and discovered a love of poetry. She now helps other authors through her company, Word Factory.

Alumnus Wayne Snow (BSc MORSE, 1994 and Chief Risk Officer) and his husband Allister Dennis (BEng Engineering (Mechanical), 1994 and Product Manager Electrification and Advanced Power Systems) are passionate about social inclusion and changing people’s lives by breaking down barriers to accessing a university education. Former trade union activist and political advisor Nita Clarke OBE (BA History and Politics, 1974, MA Comparative Labour History, 1977) had her first experience of public speaking and activism at Warwick. Nita was awarded an OBE for her services to employee engagement and remains a prominent speaker on the subject.

Now working for IBM, Khaled still misses his workshops and study groups from Warwick.

Jinsong now works as Compliance Risk Control Director and Board Secretary at a PE fund Ever State Capital in Shenzhen, China.

"Warwick as I read years back is a centre for Excellence in Creativity and a perfect educational hub.

Being there to learn the art of ART/IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) was total ecstasy. The IVF Unit and the teaching faculty were top-level and they were kind enough to transfer the valuable knowledge to deserving students without any quid pro quo. Presently my practice of ART/IVF at Mothercare Hospital, Pune India has grown, not because of my strength, but the tips that I cultivated at Warwick. Thank you."

"I am an entrepreneur, best-selling author, qualified lawyer, career coach and commercial/creative consultant.

Before university, I was a full-time musician for a number of years, but after our singer quit, I joined Warwick to study Law & Business. I really enjoyed my degree, from the social aspects and my time running societies, to the broad mix of modules that I was able to study."

A theatre graduate who ended up becoming a chartered accountant with Big Four firm E&Y in London.

John Mason, Paul Sullivan, and Mark Rogerson performed in a rock band along with two fellow students known as "The Interviewees”.

It was Frisbee that drew Derek to Warwick. The University Frisbee Club started in 1976 and must be one of the oldest clubs in Europe.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the University of Warwick. I grew up in a small village in the countryside where I didn’t have the opportunity to meet people from different cultures, backgrounds, or other countries. Warwick has a strong international student base and I learnt a lot from meeting people from all walks of life and seeing the world outside of my sleepy Gloucestershire village!"

Philanthropist Doug Miller, who with his wife Audrey founded the Multicultural Scholars Programme here at Warwick, has created a global venture philanthropy network with more than 1,000 members and 100 team members across four continents.

Over the last 4 years after graduation from the University of Warwick in 2017, Nak has been actively volunteering his personal time apart from his full-time professional work to share his expertise and experiences through various mentorship programs and activities to support young women in Asia. Apart from being a mentor, he has a strong passion in volunteering and supporting STEM Education in Cambodia as a robotic trainer, a judge for various STEM and Robotic competitions, Chief STEM Project Supervisor. He is also a member of Southeast Asia Research Academy.

"I have not had a career. I’ve simply had a long list of fascinating projects."

At 26, Sharon Plant was the youngest independent gallery owner in the country. She went on to become an art consultant; interviewing prominent creative figures, including Yoko Ono. She helped launch and direct the New Designers exhibition and was Festival Coordinator for the inaugural London Design Festival.

She is a painter, jazz musician and novelist. She looks back at her working life and shows how a career doesn't have to follow a traditional path.

Stu went his own way after graduating, opting to teach English as a foreign language for many happy and interesting years.

"My favourite memories of Warwick include One World Week where I participated in cultural dance events on stage. I remember performing three dances, which were all from different parts of India. As a British Indian this was a proud moment as I celebrated along with thousands of other students the diverse culture and background that make up Warwick University. The event represented students from across the world and celebrated the One World in which we live in today."

Neil remembers being a programme engineer on Warwick's radio station in the 1970s when it was based in ‘The Shed’ next to Rootes D Block. His job was to have everything ready for the radio presenter. On one occasion, the presenter for a pop music programme never showed up, so he had to go on instead when he had to scramble between the studio and the storage cabinet to find a new song to play before the one I had just launched was over.

"I studied at Warwick more than 20 years ago but I still keep in touch with flatmates at Claycroft. It was so impressive, enjoyable and also a hard time during my life."

"I miss the creative atmosphere of Warwick campus, that feeling that something big in going on in this place. This inner talk that pushed me inside to be as good as possible in order to be part of this ''big'' going on."

"I arrived at Warwick in 1989 and immediately joined the Caving Club (my uni choices were based solely on whether there was a good Caving Club). I also joined the Climbing Club, which was one of the major turning points of my life."

Calum is a political media writer and entrepreneur, setting up a youth-orientated media company, The Speaker, in 2018, seeking to inspire the next generation in politics. Part of his work for The Speaker, has also seen Calum and his co-director write a book, 2020 As It Happened, which was published in early 2021 and looks back at the major stories of the previous year and some of the more bizarre news stories that we might have forgotten.

"I started studying martial arts at age 65. Now, eight years later, I have black belts in eight martial arts and am a World Champion in taekwondo (sparring, forms & weapons), karate (sparring, 2017, 2018, 2019), kung fu (forms & weapons), Yang Style Tai Chi (forms & weapons), Sun Style Tai Chi (forms & weapons) and qigong (forms). My career gold medal count is 500+, hopefully with more to come."

"I am entrepreneur from Mumbai, India. I have recently switched gears in my life to become an author.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, I wrote my first, fast-paced, reality-based fictional thriller called ‘Lynchpin: The Best Laid Schemes of Mice and Men.'"

"I think I was the first student Entertainment Secretary at Warwick. I helped to get the student discos off to a flying start with many top bands at the time, such as Cream, Pink Floyd and many others performing there."

"I started at Warwick in 2014, and a quick four years later, I graduated as a Master of Mathematics. While my degree was in pure and applied Mathematics, I knew that I always wanted to go into tech after I graduated. A lot of my friends were looking for jobs in finance, but I knew that wasn’t for me. I heard about an event that TPP were running at the University with a speaker that I was interested in going to see. I went along to see the speaker, make the most of the free food, and learn a bit more about TPP."

"After graduating, I spent two years at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and then the next two years working (and resting) as a professional actor. In 1983 I started teaching English at The King's School in Worcester, staying there for my entire career until retirement in 2018. I was a housemaster for 21 of those 35 years and was involved in school sport and especially school drama, directing nearly 50 productions. I completed an MA at The Shakespeare Institute in 2012. I married Sarah in 1984 and we have two daughters, one a teacher and the other a lawyer."

After graduation, Nat worked in the finance and legal industry. She then founded Mochy Group (STEM specialist that provides kids workshop services and designs educational toys) and OhMyClass (course finding tech platform that connects teaching providers with learners). Being nominated for AmCham Women of Influence Awards (Leading Woman in STEM), her go-to motto is 'try and fail, but never fail to try'!

"I have recently written a book on commercial banking, "Banking Matters: An essential guide to commercial banking in an age of disruption".

The book provides an overview of commercial banking and the role that banks play in the economy, and would be useful for anyone starting a career in banking, hoping to challenge incumbent banks, or providing services to banks. It briefly reached #1 for banking books on Amazon in the UK, and was #2 in terms of ratings for such books. It has been publicly endorsed (on LinkedIn) by senior bank executives as a useful resource."

"I left Warwick in 1982 and took up a career in teaching. After a couple of years in Basingstoke, I became a Head of Department in a school in Nuneaton. After six years in this job and a promotion, I was headhunted to become a senior teacher at the prestigious City Technology College in Kingshurst. During this time I was directly involved in writing sections of the then new National Curriculum."

"I am now a Lecturer in the Faculty of Education, University of Hong Kong. I recently received my Faculty’s Emergency Remote Teaching Award for my work in 2019-20 - the first time this Award has been given. One thing the Panel though especially worthy of mention was a project I set up in May 2020 called Hear This! A Festival of Radio Drama on Zoom."

"Having published several novels, short stories and picture books for children, I have just published my first novel for adults, Death at Friar's Inn, in eBook! I'm hoping a paperback will follow."

"I am MBA graduate of the 1990s and at the age of 74 I completed my 300th marathon and the earned rare achievement of the UK’s 100 Marathon Club ‘Triple Crown’ award. I started my marathon adventure over 40 years ago when I set myself the goal of completing two marathons during my thirties. After a huge life change when my wife sadly passed away, I returned to running. Despite several set-backs along the way, I have run 9,192 miles during 100 road marathons, 100 trail marathons and 100 ultra-marathons."

"I have recently retired from a rare career, designing the acoustics of international opera houses, concert halls and theatres.

This has traceable routes to my time at Warwick, lighting student plays in Benefactors Hall and then the (new) Warwick Arts Centre, running the disco on the roof of the Senate building during the 1975 occupation, doing a noise-related summer placement and a project on the physics of concert halls."

Mohamed is a Somali diplomat, politician and academic currently serving as the Chief Representative of the Republic of Somaliland Representative Office in Taiwan. Mohamed combines considerable distinctive feats of being a professional person with extensive experience in the various fields of diplomacy, academia, policymaking programmes, and strategic governance systems.

"After a working life teaching, I have turned my attention to research and writing about the late medieval/early modern period of history. I founded a Facebook page and group called British Medieval Christian Tradition."

"I was born in South Africa, although all my education was in the UK, having attended Winchmore Hill Secondary Modern and Southgate Technical College in North London prior to a bachelor’s degree at Hull University."

"My year at Warwick gave me a fantastic boost of my research in Algebraic Topology. Moreover the teaching of Colin Rourke and of Sir Christopher Zeeman were the keystone for my way of teaching once back in Italy."

"I studied Film and Literature at Warwick from 2004-2007 and I have to say it truly was one of the best experiences in terms of setting me up for my future career. I lived at Whitefields and was the girl who took photos and videos of every night out or night in and suddenly realised I should do something with all the media and memories I was acquiring. After my very first term, over the Christmas break, I decided to edit together a short movie with all the material I had shot - just for my housemates - and everyone loved it, so I carried on doing it each term."

Saachi is a marketing communications professional with 11 years' work experience across both MNCs and start-ups in the UK and India. She started her career in London and currently leads brand marketing for the National Geographic network, part of The Walt Disney Company in India.

"My two Masters years at Warwick passed so quickly, but I have many fond memories from them and I reminisce often of my classmates, the seminars, evening drinks at Fusion, the yummy treats and hot drinks at Curiositea, and the campus in general, where I’d spend many walks around and never get bored."

With a background in Computer Science (a degree at Coventry University, PGCE teacher training at Warwick and Masters in Leading Innovation and Change at St Mary's University, Twickenham), alongside her experience working with international schools, Halima joined the Ursuline High School as Director of Digital Learning and Head of Computing, where she has continued to share her passion for technology and encouraging a diverse range of girls to study and pursue careers in computing.

When I was at Warwick, tutorial classes were weekly and comprised a lecturer with five or six students."

After Warwick, James moved to the Big Apple to start his career on Wall Street in 2004. Eighteen years later, he is a Senior Partner at a Multi Family Office in Zurich focusing on Quantamental investing across several asset classes. Dr Dunya Abdulla Ahmed is now Assistant Professor and Lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Bahrain & Strategic Planning & Development Adviser in Supreme Council for Women.

Yemi is a Legal-Tech Intrapreneur and Future Trainee Solicitor at Clifford Chance. He founded a social enterprise called Project Access (PA) Midlands, which fights inequalities in higher education by widening access to top UK universities for untraditional students, through a tech-enabled mentorship platform. He has been identified by Google as a Top Black Talent and by UNDP as an SDG Global Talent.

"I recently participated in the migration of the Ontario Consent and Capacity Board from in-person to online, virtual operations. I miss the coffee mornings with the other students on the course."

Dr Afiniki Akanet (MBChB Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery, 2012; PGA Understanding Childhood, 2014) is a General Practitioner (GP) specialising in mental health based in Coventry. Uncover Afiniki’s journey as an international student, her devotion to improving mental health in the community and the motivations behind her love of writing.

"Warwick was where I met my wife. She was in the MBA group a year in front of me. We both went to work in South Africa shortly after finishing the course and wrote our dissertations whilst living there. I based my dissertation on the work I was doing in SA - establishing the Marketing concept of driving experiences as a way of building and promoting a brand profile."

From working in a fish and chip shop to writing a play that’s been performed all over the world, Sam Steiner (English Literature , 2014) learned at Warwick how to take his stories in new directions. Most recently, he’s penned the script for Morning, a film starring Laura Dern and Benedict Cumberbatch set for release later this year. We spoke to Sam about his experience of breaking into playwriting for stage and screen.

I run the new product division (right hand of the CEO) at Lonestar Industries, India's largest Metal Expansion Joint manufacturer. I am also pursuing my Doctorate in Industrial Engineering Technology at Purdue University. With my study, I hope to help contribute to the manufacturing space in India and aid small and medium enterprises in the country. During the pandemic, I was able to help aid the families of our female and male employees equally. I hope to make this EPC/ manufacturing space more inclusive and safe for all.

Professor Sudhesh Kumar is Dean of Warwick Medical School (WMS) and a clinical endocrinologist by background (treating diseases related to hormone problems). He also has several other external roles in the NHS. Sudhesh is passionate about supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds who wish to pursue a medical career.

"Every person has to face that moment in life when certain decisions have to be made as they have vast implications. It is in this context that after much deliberation and introspection, I decided to pursue my Masters in Global Media and Communication."

Anyarat Nattheeraphong (PhD English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics, 2013) shortlisted for the UK Alumni Awards 2022 (Social Action) in Thailand.

An advocate for teaching and children’s literacy, Elyanora Menglieva (MA TESOL, 2019) was a 2022 Uzbekistan national finalist in the British Council Study UK Alumni Awards (Social Action category) and was awarded ‘Ambassadors’s Choice’.

Susan Douglas (BA Qualified Teacher Status, 1987-1991) was awarded a CBE for her services to Education in the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours list. She shares her memories of why her time at Warwick was ‘life-changing’, and why being an educator is the greatest privilege of all.

Ella McLeod’s debut novel Rapunzella, Or, Don't Touch My Hair started life as a poem written during her studies at Warwick. We asked Ella (BA English and Theatre Studies, 2017) how she was inspired to evolve the idea from its beginnings to her dissertation and now, her first book.

Inspired to create change in the refugee community, Last Mafuba (BSc Psychology, 2015; LLM International Development Law and Human Rights, 2016) created the Inini Initiative. Inini provides a safe space for refugees to build relationships and find out about mental health and other support services available.
