For more than 25 years, Charles Wiltshire (BEd Learning Difficulties, 1986) has worked in theatres as an audio describer. Here, he explains how he found this career path and why it means so much to him.

From combat to craftsmanship and opera to Oscars, Greg Campbell (BA Theatre Studies, 1987) has spent many years of his life in the creative arts. Since then, he’s completed a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE), two masters’ degrees and is underway with an Education PhD. But it was only when he received his ADHD diagnosis that the world – and his struggles as an undergraduate - began to make more sense.

The Warwick physics course made me challenge the most fundamental assumptions I held about the world.

The ASI MSc exposed me to numerous frontier instrumental techniques in Analytical Science; it equipped me with the nitty-gritty of many analytical methods and their applications in solving real life problems.

Musician and Music Educator Katherine Fear (BA Qualified Teacher Status [Arts Ed.], 1991) balances her passions for folk music and teaching. Here she shares how her time at Warwick gave her the confidence to follow her dreams.

Emily Wells (BA English Literature and Creative Writing, 2013) has a job many booklovers would envy: she gets to read for a living. As Senior Editor for a division of world publishing giant Hachette, her week is spent dissecting what makes a story sell and succeed on the market.

Dr Mark Wallace (BEng Engineering (Electrical), 1996; PhD Engineering, 2001) is Lead Innovations Engineer at Quanta Dialysis Technologies. He is one of the team which was awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering’s MacRobert Award for UK engineering innovation. The creation of the Quanta Dialysis System (SC+), a compact and portable dialysis machine that is transforming the lives of patients with renal failure, is already being used across 12 NHS Trusts. The innovation is both CE-marked and FDA-cleared and stands to be a global leader in the multibillion-dollar industry.

Before Warwick, alumna Armani Chante Samuel-Smith (BA Film and Literature, 2022) was working with a charity supporting students from underprivileged backgrounds into the creative industry. Fast forward to now, she’s the proud owner of a first-class degree, her own production start-up, a role with Netflix, and even more determination to write her own shows. It’s no wonder she’s been featured on Powerful Media’s Future Leaders 2022/3 list, which recognises 150 of Britain’s most outstanding Black university students.

Not only has law graduate Jessica Tinubu (LLB Law, 2022) been inspired by the trailblazing women she knows, but as one of Powerful Media’s Future Leaders, she is now an inspiration to others. An alumna of all trades, Jessica founded a start-up stationery business and has amassed a following of more than 13,000 on TikTok where she shares advice about Warwick and her law degree. And she’s only just getting started.

We know our arts alumni go on to do wonderful things after they leave us, and we love that everyone’s story is a little different. Arts advocate, Sunday Times columnist, mum, self-confessed cake scoffer, women’s fiction writer and ex Tellytubbyland resident alumna Pernille Hughes (BA Film and Literature, 1994) has had a rollercoaster of a journey since she graduated from Warwick. Here she tells us how she found her writing voice, and why your arts degree will always be a good talking point.

That’s the focus of Yvonne Udenwa (MSc Analytical Science: Methods and Instrumental Techniques, 2011), who’s Senior Associate in EU Regulatory Affairs Strategy at Pfizer. From becoming the first in his family to go to university, Mike Burnett (BA History, 1975) has continued to evolve throughout a career in which he’s worked all over the world.

As a five-time Paralympic medallist, Kare Adenegan’s (BA History, 2022) sporting endeavours have played a big part in her university experience. No stranger to making history, Kare graduated with a first-class honours degree a week after claiming silver in the T33/34 100m at the Birmingham’s Commonwealth Games. Theatre Director Ali Pidsley (BA English and Theatre Studies, 2014; MA English Literature, 2016) shares how Warwick inspired him to set up a different kind of theatre company.

IntoUniversity’s mission is to raise the aspirations of young people from the poorest homes across the UK. Statistically, these students underperform at school, they are less likely to go to university, and have little chance of breaking the cycle of poverty.

Warwick in partnership with IntoUniversity aims to challenge this in Coventry.

Dr Shahed Yousaf has been a GP for ten years; working with the homeless and with prisoners. He is also an accomplished writer, starting off his writing career with fiction, he has now published ‘Stitched Up’ which follows his career in medicine working with patients on the edge of society.

Applications for the British Council Study UK Alumni Awards are open from 1 September to 28 October to alumni living outside of the UK who have studied in the UK in the last 15 years. The Alumni Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of alumni and showcase the impact and value of a UK higher education. Award winners and finalists are leaders in their fields who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to make a positive contribution to their communities, professions, and countries.

Driven to help people thrive and find their sense of meaning and purpose, Warwick’s Head of Careers, Anne Wilson, is also an alumna, having completed a Postgraduate Diploma Career Education, Information and Guidance in Higher Education in 2013. Anne shares more about her 16-year journey at Warwick, and how she’s not finished yet.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 years and am grateful for the opportunity to study physics there as it definitely set me up for a successful future, armed with a degree from a highly respected university and skills that last a lifetime!

Elizabete Ludborza, who studied our Law with Study Abroad in English degree from 2015-2019, has set up her own legal tech startup Kaveat to help social media influencers and models to understand and negotiate legal contracts.

Farah Williamson (BA French and History, 2006) is currently Director of Gulf & Strategic Partnerships at Plan International Canada, one of the world’s oldest and largest development and humanitarian organisations that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

My PhD in Physics was on Advances in Electron Microscopy with Deep Learning, so starting my role at Illumina felt seamless.

Dr David Coates has begun a five-year project that extends his research to date on the development of amateur theatre in Britain. The project team, made up of five scholars, will explore the cultural and political contexts that determined citizenship ideas and practices, as well as theatre.

Having just graduated in her MA in the History of Medicine, Kirstie reflects on the course and why she chose Warwick for postgraduate study.

Having joined as a trainee for just three months, Dr Andrew Whitehead (MA Social History, 1989; PhD History, 2013) went on to spend 35 years with BBC News. In his last role as Editor of BBC World Service News, Andrew was responsible for programming on the BBC's most widely listened to radio network with a global weekly reach of about 100 million listeners.

Sarah is the longest serving member of the department having joined in October 1988. She takes a fond look back at her time at Warwick.

Giving Day 2022, the Warwick community’s annual online fundraising challenge, was a great success, with 260 of you raising £182,673.75 for students, research and the arts at Warwick.

Over 12 days, 4,500 athletes from 72 countries will compete across 15 competition venues.

Final year Patrick (History and Politics, BA) is the co-founder and co-artistic director of Shoot The Messenger – an independent, student production company. Together with Ella McQueen, (Politics, Philosophy and Law, BA), he founded Shoot the Messenger in February 2021 as a way of keeping spirits up and creativity flowing during lockdown.

Despite originating from opposite sides of the world, Frank and Kate Dempsey (both MBA Business Administration, 2008) met through friends while studying at WBS. Theatre Performance Studies graduate, Dean Murphy discusses his career journey since leaving Warwick

Through her degree, Rebecca Preedy (BA Ancient History and Classical Archaeology with Study in Europe, (2021), MA Ancient Visual and Material Culture of Rome, present) has been able to combine her interests in ancient history, archaeology and languages. She talks about her Warwick experience, and the parallels between the ancient and modern worlds.

As artistic director and producer of the award-winning 1623 theatre company, alumnus Ben Spiller uses Shakespeare and theatre to engage communities, champion diversity and support social justice.

Ben’s love of the theatre blossomed at Warwick, where he became president of the award-winning Warwick University Drama Society (WUDS), acting in and directing productions at Warwick Arts Centre and beyond including the National Student Drama Festival.

Ben explained what motivates him to inspire, surprise and affect people through the power of Shakespeare.

After a career in journalism where she launched The Sunday Times Short Story Award, Cathy Galvin (MA Writing, 2015) came to Warwick to explore her interest in short stories and discovered a love of poetry. She now helps other authors through her company, Word Factory.

Alumnus Wayne Snow (BSc MORSE, 1994 and Chief Risk Officer) and his husband Allister Dennis (BEng Engineering (Mechanical), 1994 and Product Manager Electrification and Advanced Power Systems) are passionate about social inclusion and changing people’s lives by breaking down barriers to accessing a university education. Explore their views on STEM inclusion and what motivates them to give to Warwick.

Former trade union activist and political advisor Nita Clarke OBE (BA History and Politics, 1974, MA Comparative Labour History, 1977) had her first experience of public speaking and activism at Warwick. Nita was awarded an OBE for her services to employee engagement and remains a prominent speaker on the subject.

"I'm currently leading Service Lines, in IBM Client Innovation Center in Middle East & Africa, and located in Cairo, Egypt. I started my programme at Warwick in 2012 with graduation in July 2016."

"I experienced a very unforgettable time in Warwick and gained a lot from the experience. I currently work as Compliance Risk Control Director and Board Secretary at a PE fund Ever State Capital in Shenzhen, China."

"I recently started my own company. It's only because of my studies at WBS and the interactions I had with so many international students that I was able to make the decision to become an entrepreneur. I was lucky to have participated in groups with people coming from all over the world, who gave me new perspectives and ideas of what's possible."

"I met Sacha Wyszegrodzki (BSc Management, 2015) in his third (my first) year at Warwick and we got married 7 years later on 18th March 2022 in Brussels."

"In 2008, I suffered a traumatic brain injury after participating in a skiing trip during the Easter break. Despite the seriousness of the injury, I managed to recover my consciousness a year after the injury and started my long journey of recovery till today."

"I was in the first 3 year training course to go through Canley in the Sixties. Really loved it and moved down to London to teach for two years before marrying and moving down to Sussex. Even starting a family did not prevent me from teaching and I gradually worked up the promotion ladder to become a Primary Head in Lewes in East Sussex. After seven years in post I applied for a Primary Head position at the British School of Kuwait and worked there for four years before moving to a similar position in Fujairah in the UAE. I finished my teaching career there before retiring and returning to Sussex. I have loved every minute of my teaching!"

Ken Wharton has written 13 books in which he chronicled the troubles in Northern Ireland from 1969-98. Ken previously served in the British Army in the Royal Green Jackets regiment, serving two tours in Northern Ireland, giving him perspective and experience to produce such compelling work. His books share first-hand accounts from soldiers of all ranks. Two of his books are bestsellers and he has contributed to over 20 newspaper articles. Ken has also been interviews by the BBC and was an Associate Producer on a documentary for the History Chanel.

"After leaving Warwick in 1977 with a Mathematics BSc, I spent a year at Canley College of Education doing a PGCE in Mathematics and Physical Education, before deciding on IT as a career. Over my IT career I have held senior IT roles in leading UK & Global financial and legal organisations, and had many opportunities to represent these firms globally in many merger and industry forums."

"One of my favourite memories from Warwick is related to the Easter weeks when I joined an extra-curricular activity of Warwick Business School (WBS). I spent a few weeks taking the exciting challenge at the Shard and brought in-depth insights into business. Nowadays businesses are realising the importance of their people in defining their brand, and I learned from Warwick how to brand myself. Every physical interaction, e-mail and voicemail builds my brand, and thus I consider consciously the impression I make."

I’d been told, in Sixth Form, that “girls from Secondary Modern Schools don’t go to university”, so getting that acceptance letter changed my whole life!"

"Warwick as I read years back is a centre for Excellence in Creativity and a perfect educational hub.

Being there to learn the art of ART/IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) was total ecstasy. The IVF Unit and the teaching faculty were top-level and they were kind enough to transfer the valuable knowledge to deserving students without any quid pro quo. Presently my practice of ART/IVF at Mothercare Hospital, Pune India has grown, not because of my strength, but the tips that I cultivated at Warwick. Thank you."

"I am an entrepreneur, best-selling author, qualified lawyer, career coach and commercial/creative consultant.

Before university, I was a full-time musician for a number of years, but after our singer quit, I joined Warwick to study Law & Business. I really enjoyed my degree, from the social aspects and my time running societies, to the broad mix of modules that I was able to study."

"I am a graduate from many years ago – 1986. My journey has been wayward starting out with a degree in Theatre Studies with all good intentions, but then I was lured to the dark side and into the depths of taxation. First becoming an Inspector of Taxes for HM Revenue & Customs and then training as a chartered accountant with Big Four firm E&Y in London qualifying in 1992 as the first and at that time, only graduate from Theatre Studies."

John Mason (Man.Sci. 1979-82), Paul Sullivan (Physics 1979-82) and Mark Rogerson (Man.Sci. 1979-82) are University of Warwick graduates who, in their final year, collaborated and performed in a rock band along with two fellow students. The five-piece called themselves "The Interviewees” and played at a few parties in the old SU building and featured in the talent contest organised by the Events committee in March 1982. That talent/song contest did end in controversy and the Warwick Boar issue of the following week famously carried the front-page revelation of result "fixing" allegations.

It was Frisbee that drew me to Warwick. The University Frisbee Club started in 1976 and must be one of the oldest clubs in Europe. It also had the only Disc Golf course in the country, albeit with wooden posts as targets rather than the basket with chains. The course has long since disappeared as it was incrementally dismembered to make way for new buildings. My love of flying discs never waned. It's many years since I played Ultimate but I'm still in touch with players from my era and subsequent years. I worked at the University from 1987 to 2017 in various roles including implementing two financial systems.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the University of Warwick. I grew up in a small village in the countryside where I didn’t have the opportunity to meet people from different cultures, backgrounds, or other countries. Warwick has a strong international student base and I learnt a lot from meeting people from all walks of life and seeing the world outside of my sleepy Gloucestershire village!"

Philanthropist Doug Miller, who with his wife Audrey founded the Multicultural Scholars Programme here at Warwick, has created a global venture philanthropy network with more than 1,000 members and 100 team members across four continents.

Over the last 4 years after graduation from the University of Warwick in 2017, Nak has been actively volunteering his personal time apart from his full-time professional work to share his expertise and experiences through various mentorship programs and activities to support young women in Asia. Apart from being a mentor, he has a strong passion in volunteering and supporting STEM Education in Cambodia as a robotic trainer, a judge for various STEM and Robotic competitions, Chief STEM Project Supervisor. He is also a member of Southeast Asia Research Academy.

"I have not had a career. I’ve simply had a long list of fascinating projects."

At 26, Sharon Plant was the youngest independent gallery owner in the country. She went on to become an art consultant; interviewing prominent creative figures, including Yoko Ono. She helped launch and direct the New Designers exhibition and was Festival Coordinator for the inaugural London Design Festival.

She is a painter, jazz musician and novelist. She looks back at her working life and shows how a career doesn't have to follow a traditional path.

"After three wonderfully fulfilling years at Warwick, I decided not to follow my peers into the banking, insurance or accountancy fields, opting instead to teach English as a foreign language for many happy and interesting years. During this time, I developed a passion for languages, and went on to gain an MA in Applied Linguistics. I recently made my publishing debut with a light-hearted take on how smartphones and channels of communication such as Twitter and Instagram have so dramatically changed the norms of social interaction, as evidenced almost everywhere we care to look."

"My favourite memories of Warwick include One World Week where I participated in cultural dance events on stage. I remember performing three dances, which were all from different parts of India. As a British Indian this was a proud moment as I celebrated along with thousands of other students the diverse culture and background that make up Warwick University. The event represented students from across the world and celebrated the One World in which we live in today."

Neil remembers being a programme engineer on Warwick's radio station in the 1970s when it was based in ‘The Shed’ next to Rootes D Block. His job was to have everything ready for the radio presenter. On one occasion, the presenter for a pop music programme never showed up, so he had to go on instead when he had to scramble between the studio and the storage cabinet to find a new song to play before the one I had just launched was over.

"I studied at Warwick more than 20 years ago but I still keep in touch with flatmates at Claycroft. It was so impressive, enjoyable and also a hard time during my life."

"I miss the creative atmosphere of Warwick campus, that feeling that something big in going on in this place. This inner talk that pushed me inside to be as good as possible in order to be part of this ''big'' going on."

"I arrived at Warwick in 1989 and immediately joined the Caving Club (my uni choices were based solely on whether there was a good Caving Club). I also joined the Climbing Club, which was one of the major turning points of my life."

Calum is a political media writer and entrepreneur, setting up a youth-orientated media company, The Speaker, in 2018, seeking to inspire the next generation in politics. Part of his work for The Speaker, has also seen Calum and his co-director write a book, 2020 As It Happened, which was published in early 2021 and looks back at the major stories of the previous year and some of the more bizarre news stories that we might have forgotten.

"I started studying martial arts at age 65. Now, eight years later, I have black belts in eight martial arts and am a World Champion in taekwondo (sparring, forms & weapons), karate (sparring, 2017, 2018, 2019), kung fu (forms & weapons), Yang Style Tai Chi (forms & weapons), Sun Style Tai Chi (forms & weapons) and qigong (forms). My career gold medal count is 500+, hopefully with more to come."

"I am entrepreneur from Mumbai, India. I have recently switched gears in my life to become an author.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, I wrote my first, fast-paced, reality-based fictional thriller called ‘Lynchpin: The Best Laid Schemes of Mice and Men.'"

"I think I was the first student Entertainment Secretary at Warwick. I helped to get the student discos off to a flying start with many top bands at the time, such as Cream, Pink Floyd and many others performing there."

"I started at Warwick in 2014, and a quick four years later, I graduated as a Master of Mathematics. While my degree was in pure and applied Mathematics, I knew that I always wanted to go into tech after I graduated. A lot of my friends were looking for jobs in finance, but I knew that wasn’t for me. I heard about an event that TPP were running at the University with a speaker that I was interested in going to see. I went along to see the speaker, make the most of the free food, and learn a bit more about TPP."

"After graduating, I spent two years at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and then the next two years working (and resting) as a professional actor. In 1983 I started teaching English at The King's School in Worcester, staying there for my entire career until retirement in 2018. I was a housemaster for 21 of those 35 years and was involved in school sport and especially school drama, directing nearly 50 productions. I completed an MA at The Shakespeare Institute in 2012. I married Sarah in 1984 and we have two daughters, one a teacher and the other a lawyer."

After graduation, Nat worked in the finance and legal industry. She then founded Mochy Group (STEM specialist that provides kids workshop services and designs educational toys) and OhMyClass (course finding tech platform that connects teaching providers with learners). "I studied Film and Literature at Warwick from 2004-2007 and I have to say it truly was one of the best experiences in terms of setting me up for my future career. I lived at Whitefields and was the girl who took photos and videos of every night out or night in and suddenly realised I should do something with all the media and memories I was acquiring. After Warwick, James moved to the Big Apple to start his career on Wall Street in 2004. Eighteen years later, he is a Senior Partner at a Multi Family Office in Zurich focusing on Quantamental investing across several asset classes. James misses great Friday nights at the Students’ Union and his walks on Campus between the Business School and the Maths Institute.

Dr Dunya Abdulla Ahmed is now Assistant Professor and Lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Bahrain & Strategic Planning & Development Adviser in Supreme Council for Women.

Yemi is a Legal-Tech Intrapreneur and Future Trainee Solicitor at Clifford Chance. He founded a social enterprise called Project Access (PA) Midlands, which fights inequalities in higher education by widening access to top UK universities for untraditional students, through a tech-enabled mentorship platform. He has been identified by Google as a Top Black Talent and by UNDP as an SDG Global Talent.

Dr Afiniki Akanet (MBChB Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery, 2012; PGA Understanding Childhood, 2014) is a General Practitioner (GP) specialising in mental health based in Coventry. We both went to work in South Africa shortly after finishing the course and wrote our dissertations whilst living there. From working in a fish and chip shop to writing a play that’s been performed all over the world, Sam Steiner (English Literature , 2014) learned at Warwick how to take his stories in new directions. Most recently, he’s penned the script for Morning, a film starring Laura Dern and Benedict Cumberbatch set for release later this year. We spoke to Sam about his experience of breaking into playwriting for stage and screen.

During the pandemic, I was able to help aid the families of our female and male employees equally. I hope to make this EPC/ manufacturing space more inclusive and safe for all.

Professor Sudhesh Kumar is Dean of Warwick Medical School (WMS) and a clinical endocrinologist by background (treating diseases related to hormone problems). He also has several other external roles in the NHS. Sudhesh is passionate about supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds who wish to pursue a medical career.

"Every person has to face that moment in life when certain decisions have to be made as they have vast implications. It is in this context that after much deliberation and introspection, I decided to pursue my Masters in Global Media and Communication."

Anyarat Nattheeraphong (PhD English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics, 2013) shortlisted for the UK Alumni Awards 2022 (Social Action) in Thailand.

An advocate for teaching and children’s literacy, Elyanora Menglieva (MA TESOL, 2019) was a 2022 Uzbekistan national finalist in the British Council Study UK Alumni Awards (Social Action category) and was awarded ‘Ambassadors’s Choice’.

Susan Douglas (BA Qualified Teacher Status, 1987-1991) was awarded a CBE for her services to Education in the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours list. She shares her memories of why her time at Warwick was ‘life-changing’, and why being an educator is the greatest privilege of all.

Ella McLeod’s debut novel Rapunzella, Or, Don't Touch My Hair started life as a poem written during her studies at Warwick. We asked Ella (BA English and Theatre Studies, 2017) how she was inspired to evolve the idea from its beginnings to her dissertation and now, her first book.

Inspired to create change in the refugee community, Last Mafuba (BSc Psychology, 2015; LLM International Development Law and Human Rights, 2016) created the Inini Initiative. Warwick Arts Centre has now officially completed its four year long £25.5 million transformational redevelopment and has begun the 100 day countdown to prepare for its new full season of arts events on 1st October 2021.

The University of Warwick has submitted a proposal to create a huge new 48+ hectare public eco park on the south side of its campus for consideration in the South Warwickshire Local Plan. I don’t believe I could have reached this position without the the invaluable problem solving skills from my degree combined with the encouragement from Warwick to explore different areas of study.

"In 1966, I joined the first group to read physics at Warwick. It was only later that I discovered why the department was a year behind in getting started. There was no Physics building and we camped out on the East Site throughout my time there. Head John Forty concentrated on solid state physics and I developed a strong interest in electron microscopy."

"I joined the MA Writing with a mission - to write the novel that has been in my bones and in my head for as long as I can remember. I'm happy to report - mission accomplished! My novel, CECILY will be published by Viking (Penguin Random House) on 29 July 2021."

Around fifty Warwick language students are taking part in the programme ‘ShareAmi’. They are paired with a French senior citizen to help improve their language skills and provide company to older people in these times of increased loneliness.

A team of students called The Warwick Boring Team are heading to LA this summer to compete in Elon Musk’s the Boring Company’s tunnelling competition. They will build their tunnelling machine and test it against competitors to get top spot.

The search for 30 people to take up new PhD pandemic research scholarships has begun thanks to philanthropists donating to the University of Warwick’s newly created Institute for Global Pandemic Planning. The University is launching this week our first monthly challenge aimed at primary school children in Key Stage 2. The project will take place between February and July 2021 and is designed and delivered by four Undergraduate Warwick Students.

The project is entirely digital and can be done from home or school on a computer. It is asynchronous so the children get to meet our students indirectly via videos and blogs. The activity is opened to all, so please feel free to use for your own events or with your own children. Challenges will be released in the first week of each month.

International Political Economy (IPE) graduates have an opportunity to join a series of “online get-togethers” between IPE alumni and current students. The idea is for students to learn from your experiences on leaving university and starting your professional career. The Study UK team is running the free Preparing for Work  MOOC again, beginning on 19 October.

The course is designed for current international students at UK universities who are about to graduate from undergraduate or postgraduate courses, as well as recent graduates and international alumni who already have some work experience.

Earlier this year, Warwick hosted the UK’s first ever Women in Economics Student Workshop which brought the students’ perspective into the debate on female under-representation in the discipline. Following the event, Warwick students were inspired to establish a new Women in Economics student society.  They are now looking for any Economics alumnae who might be willing to speak at a future event (albeit virtually for now) about their career journey since graduating, and to offer any tips or advice from their own experiences.

The Student Opportunity team are looking for volunteer mentors to support students from a widening participation background.

The programme aims to provide students with an opportunity to grow their confidence, learn how they may develop professional skills and gain an insight into professional life or different industries to support their career journey.

Warwick Summer School is a three week programme open to undergraduates, postgraduates and professionals and recommended by 97% of our Alumni.

The Summer School also offers a fully-inclusive 10 night programme for 16-18 year olds.

I think it is a very, very interesting course that I did and a very, very exciting environment, which gives the students the opportunity to actually try.

The Warwick campus is to become an Athletes Village during the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Mark Bailey is a consultant in charge of the infectious diseases isolation ward at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. He shares a reflection on the current pandemic.

"New challenges, such as COVID-19, can tell us a lot about ourselves, others, and the organisations we work for and we all have a lot to learn from being involved in the current crisis."

Ann Caine (Divisional Manager for Biomedical Sciences) tells us about what she and the team have been working on.

"I feel very proud of our admin team members who are supporting our staff and students to the best of their abilities, and our dedicated clinicians and talented scientists who have stepped up to help fight this unseen enemy."

Jordan (MB ChB) shares his experience as a Medical Student Clinical Support at University Hospital Coventry.

"As a former historian, I feel as though we are watching history unfurl before us – a turning point as real as the world wars, the nuclear age, the bubonic plague. As before, the solution is courage in the face of adversity."

Abbie (MB ChB) reflects on her experience as a medical student during the pandemic.

"Covid-19 has truly changed our lives, and we as medical students are no different."

Anj Kang (MB ChB Phase I Secretary) signed up to the NHS Volunteer Responder initiative and tells us what her role involves.

"Both the patients and the pharmacies have been extremely grateful for the help I and lots of others are providing for those who are unable to get out at the moment."

Roopak Khara (MB ChB, 2013) tells us about her role working as medical lead on a psychiatric inpatient Covid-19 ward.

"Overnight I went from working as a general adult psychiatry registrar on a PICU (psychiatric intensive care unit) to medical lead for the UK’s first psychiatric inpatient COVID-19 ward in West London."

Shirley Rigby (PG Award, 2004) tells us about her role working as a consultant on a Covid-19 ward.

"It was a rapid learning curve, learning how to diagnose and treat a new disease that none of us had seen before."

Jessica Nolan (MB ChB, 2019) reflects upon her experience as an F1 working on a Covid-19 ward.

"When starting work as an F1 this year, I never thought that I would be facing anything as challenging as the Covid-19 pandemic."

In the picture you can see my experience of lockdown in Milan. I made this pizza for the first time at Tocil, at the south-east of the University of Warwick, in 2013 exactly - it's also improved!

Muhammad Ali Randhawa (MA Public Policy, 2017) is currently working as the Home Secretary in Gilgit-Baltistan, a beautiful region of Pakistan. After the arrival of COVID-19, Ali has been the head of all the relief operations in his jurisdictional province.

"With dedicated team effort and continuous hard work, we have been able to achieve a 75% recovery rate of COVID-19 patients, the highest in Pakistan. I believe the quality of education that I got from the University of Warwick has helped me to frame the policies and implement them by using networking management style."

Computer Science teacher, Jenny Andrews (PGCE, 2018) is in the process of making a new app to put vulnerable or self-isolating people in touch with volunteer shoppers. The app allows the user to sign up as a self-isolating individual or family to create a shopping list. Volunteer shoppers can review the shopping requests and if they are able to help, they will contact the user via messaging.

French and European Literature alumna, Jane Bowell graduated from Warwick in 1975 and now resides in France. Although Jane retired from teaching a few years ago, she decided to switch on Skype and other web platforms to deliver English language and literature classes to various levels.

"Although the beaches are closed and we do not yet have a reopening date, for me, this has been one of the most rewarding parts of lockdown and has rapidly become a full-time occupation again!"

Kemal Onur Uz graduated from Warwick in 2014 after studying Creative and Media Enterprises, and now works as a freelance journalist and a musician. During his time at Warwick, he did a TEDx talk called 'What if we weren't afraid?'. He is currently creating a video about his experiences at Warwick, particularly aimed at international students - watch this space!

John Willis (MPA, 2008) has set up free online seat-based exercise classes for older and disabled people during lockdown.

"The response has been so extraordinary we will try to keep them going beyond the 12-week program. So far over 32,000 people have cumulatively viewed the sessions with an average of over 2,000 per morning/beginner’s session! We must be doing something right!"
